Agentic AI is a hot topic as organizations are working quickly to develop autonomous systems that leverage generative AI and large language models. Yet many of these agents, and arguably those most important for autonomy, are decision agents that require a hybrid AI approach. Decision agents take advantage of generative AI, operationalize predictive AI, and use decision models and business rules to deliver the reliability, transparency, guardrails and compliance essential for real-world solutions.

This workshop will introduce the key concepts of decision agents, walk through how to assign the right technology (generative AI, predictive AI, business rules) to the right decision agents, and discuss proven design approaches for decision agents. It will summarize the core technologies involved, compare and contrast their different value propositions, share best practices on combining them, and discuss the most effective approach for getting decision agents built and deployed. 

This workshop will be interactive, with live design exercises, but it will not involve hands-on coding. The agenda focuses on how to conceptualize and manage technologies in combination, rather than getting into the weeds of any one technology.
